The pipe lamp is pretty easy to build, now that I know how to do it. The hardest part was finalizing my design. Once again......several trips to Home Depot. Once I had an idea of what I wanted the lamp to look like, and had all the parts. I laid them all out. I was trying to keep the cost down but still have it look good. Four feet also looks good but costs more.
I did a lot of research on the internet on how to secure the lamp socket to the pipe. Many of the suggestions were to glue the socket in, which I did not like, in case I ever needed to change the lamp socket. Or, to just have it hanging out of the pipe, which I also did not like. I found this Make-A-Lamp kit at HD for $13. They key to this kit are the bottle adapters, which fit perfectly into the pipe.
The pipes have sharp edges, so I filed them down using a rat tail file. You will be running electrical wire through the pipe which will carry a current. You don't want the pipe to cut into the wire. Since the lamp is made of metal pipe the whole lamp will become "live"!
I started assembling the lamp by assembling the parts that would not have any wire through them.
It was after this point that I assembled, disassembled, and reassembled the lamp a few times.
